Manesty

Brief History and Background of Manesty

1905

A firm of manufacturing chemists in Liverpool, namely Thompson and Capper Wholesale Limited, developed an existing business and secured the sole agency for the F.J.Stokes Machine Co.  The agency flourished and arrangements were made under which the machines were manufactured in the Liverpool factory and called Manesty.  The first factory was situated in the City Centre of Liverpool in Manesty's Lane (which, still exists and is the origin of our company name).

1920

In order to separate the manufacture of pharmaceutical products from the construction of machinery, a new company Manesty Machines Ltd. was borne.  It was during these years that Manesty, with its extensive range of pharmaceutical equipment, laid the foundations of its reputation as a manufacturer of excellent, robust, reliable machinery, a reputation that continues to this day.

1937

A seven-acre site was purchased at Speke, Liverpool and a new factory was built housing both Thompson & Capper Wholesale Ltd. and Manesty Machines Ltd.

1946

Manesty was purchased by John Holroyd and Co. Ltd, manufacturers of specialist machine tools who had, over the years, designed and manufactured many special purpose machines including a rotary tablet press as early as 1888. Holroyd erected a new building in Speke into which Manesty re-located.

1964

Holroyd was purchased by the then Renold Chains Limited (now known as Renold PLC). This takeover by a large multi-national company made available the resources for product market developments which led to a substantial increase in manufacturing capacity. With this increase came a new generation of tablet and coating machines.

1990

Manesty Machines was bought from Renold by Barry Wehmiller International  (Later known as BWI plc.), who had specific interest and expertise in the development of process equipment.

1998

BWI Pharmaceutical Technologies was formed incorporating BWI Manesty and BWI Hüttlin.

1999

IWKA AG purchased BWI PLC and both BWI Hüttlin and BWI Manesty became  part of the IWKA Pacunion group of companies with a Head Office at Stutensee near Karlsruhe, Germany.

2000

Planning started on a new green field manufacturing site for Manesty in Knowsley, Merseyside.  This project was a major investment in both a new factory and in new machine tools.

2001

The new factory was completed in October 2001 and the move from the Speke site to Knowsley was completed by January 2002.

March 2007

The investment group Odewald & Compagnie purchased the IWKA packaging group and the new name OYSTAR The Process and Packaging Group was launched.  Manesty is now part of the OYSTAR group of companies and is now known as OYSTAR Manesty.
